A Field Study on Food and Agriculture Industry has been successfully implemented in the Osaka, Kyoto, and Tokyo areas in Japan from 20 to 28 August 2023. The Project invited 12 participants from Lao PDR and Cambodia, consisting of 1 government official from each country, 4 students, and 1 university staff member from both the National University of Laos and the Royal University of Agriculture of Cambodia, respectively.
The students comprehensively learned about Japanese agriculture and the food value chain in this program. Students were also introduced to various food-related companies across the Tokyo area, Kyoto, and Osaka, including visits to plants & factories, farms, agricultural cooperatives, restaurant industries, and wholesale and traditional markets in Japan to deeply understand the Japanese food service industry and food value chain.
By the end of the program, two student groups representing each Lao PDR and Cambodia had an opportunity to give their utmost effort in presenting their experiences and lessons learned from their visit to various Japanese companies throughout the program. They presented their Action Plan on how their newly acquired skills and knowledge can be applied to further improve the food value chain system in their home country in the future.
