July 31, 2026

IPB University, Bogor – Indonesia

The Food Analysis Training Course, organised under HRD Project Phase 4 in collaboration with the Department of Food Science and Technology, IPB University, was attended by a total of 71 participants. Of these, 20 joined onsite and 51 participated online. The participants comprised 7 government agency officials, 2 private-sector staff, and 48 academicians and 14 students from IPB University and other universities in Kalimantan, Sumatra, Sulawesi, and Java.

Eight experts from the Japanese public and private sectors were invited to share their expertise and experiences, combining lectures with practical training on functional substance analysis using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) to detect 4-aminobutanoic acid (GABA) in white and germinated brown rice by High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC).

The programme covered a range of topics, including the basic concept of the outline of Japanese Agricultural Standards (JAS), the development of functional food labelling system, JAS testing method, ISO/IEC17025, and functional substance analysis. These sessions enhanced participants’ technical skills, deepened their understanding of food analysis, and provided valuable insights applicable to both professional practice and research.

As conveyed by IPB University, there is now a growing importance of food analysis in advancing food safety, quality assurance, and the development of scientifically validated functional foods. He expressed his appreciation to MAFF Japan and all collaborating institutions for the training, providing participants with practical knowledge and skills in JAS for GABA determination in rice.

Additionally, MAFF Japan also encouraged participants to contribute to the development of the agriculture and food sectors in Indonesia, ASEAN, and Japan with the knowledge gained from this training.
