Food Safety Management Training Course in Partnership with Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) 2026

July 15, 2026

Universiti Putra Malaysia, Malaysia

The Food Safety Management Training Course, organised under HRD Project Phase 4 in collaboration with the Department of Food Science and Technology of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), was attended by a total of 30 participants, which consisted of 7 public/government agency staff, 6 private company staff, 4 academicians, and 13 postgraduate students from Universiti Putra Malaysia and other universities.

In this programme, the Project collaborated with Kagoshima University, a Japanese certification body recognised by the Japan Food Safety Management Association (JFSM), to conduct an intensive training course for JFS-A/B certification. The training course consisted of 2 consecutive trainings, namely Food Safety Training and Audit Training, with various activities to enrich and deepen their knowledge of Food Safety Management and to obtain JFS-A/B certification, including lectures, group work, and examinations.

Prof. Dr. Anis Shobirin, Dean of the Faculty of Food Science and Technology of UPM, conveyed that bringing together participants from academia, government, and the food industry fosters cross-sector collaboration and contributes to a stronger food safety system across the region. In this opportunity, she encouraged participants to actively engage throughout the programme to enhance their knowledge and practical competencies in Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) and food safety auditing, aiming to promote safer food systems and higher food safety standards across ASEAN.

Mr. Yuichi Otsuka from MAFF Japan also emphasised that the training provides participants with practical knowledge and skills in food safety management based on the internationally recognized JFS Standard, which is approved by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI). Therefore, he encouraged participants to apply the knowledge and skills gained through the programme to contribute to the advancement of Malaysia’s food industry and to further strengthen cooperation between Malaysia and Japan in the field of food industries.

By the end of the course and upon completing the exams, those who passed the examinations finally obtained JFSM-recognised certificates of Food Safety Training and Audit Training.
