The HRD Project Phase 4 successfully organised the Food Value Chain Training Course in collaboration with the Department of Food Science and Technology of Visayas State University and Japan Food Journal. The training course was attended by a total of 101 participants, including 36 online participants and 65 in-person attendees. Participants came from diverse backgrounds, comprising students from several universities in the Philippines, including Visayas State University, the University of Southern Mindanao, Cavite State University, and Davao del Norte State College, as well as government officers from agriculture-related agencies in the Philippines and two students from Indonesia.
The programme also featured ten distinguished experts, including eight specialists from Japanese public and private sector companies, one academic from Indonesia, and one academic from the Philippines. These experts shared valuable knowledge and insights on the Food Value Chain, drawing upon their extensive professional experience and expertise in the field.
The programme consisted not only of specialised lectures on Food Value Chain development, but also a series of interactive workshops. These sessions were designed to strengthen participants’ understanding of Food Safety Management standards and to cultivate future leaders in the food and agriculture sector through problem-solving-based activities. Collectively, the programme provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of the Food Value Chain from both international and local perspectives, while encouraging critical thinking, innovation, and the development of new ideas to support a more sustainable and resilient future for the food and agriculture sector in the Philippines.
